Paul Revere: The Midnight Ride; by Anna

I was waiting with a bunch of rebel spies. The Colony was dead silent.  Even beyond the colony, nothing struck. Not a sound was heard anywhere. Nothing. The rebels and I knew that something was going on, trouble we suspected. Transport boats have been seen on the Charles River.  The next day I rode up to Lexington to warn Sam and John Adams along with John Hancock. I told them that the British solders are coming.”Well Paul, I think we know what to do. Gather up all the men you can find and equip them for battle, It’s war Paul, this is what happens. If the British want to fight, We will have a fight. War. And tell the colonists that the British are coming, we can’t just have war and not let them know about it.” John Adams explained.

“Yes, I’ll try my best.” I proclaimed.

I collected almost 200 men who want to fight that day, the Minute Men were advised to see any movement of the British at Concord. Sprinting into the barn, I grabbed my best horse, I jumped on my horse and went around warning the colonists”The British are coming, the British are coming!” General Gage was trying to stop the chaotic colonists on the streets. On Tuesday, April 18Th, North square was filled with the equipped men I collected ready for battle against the British. As the equipped men were getting on the boats one by one to go to Lexington to fight Joseph Warren said”go now before it’s too late” and gave a signal to me and William Dawes to head out.

I rode my horse quickly down the road trying no to bump into the colonists. I could smell the fires on peoples torches as I rode by, some little sparks got on my clothes. I made a tighter grip on the horse reins, faster and faster I went down the road. The wind was rushing in my face. Their were men on the road heading towards the boats. I could hear a gunshot in the distance, I looked at the clock up ahead, It was midnight. When I got to the church, I instructed the young sexton to hang two lanterns on the belfry of the church”go and put these lanterns up at the belfry at the church to warn the colonists that the British are coming and make sure that they are well apart so they can be seen clearly, quickly!”"yes sir” Newman climbed the steps and placed the lanterns on the belfry of North Church. Now we were finally off to Lexington to fight for our freedom, and see what will happen next as we take one step closer to winning the revolution against the British.

As I went to war, I remember that if I hadn’t told the colonists that the British solders were coming then the colonists wouldn’t know and them the British would have just marched in and invaded the colony. And now that I am getting older I think back to what I have done for the colonists and making them stay safe and I will continue to do that for as long as I live.
